Editor’s Note
The second volume of Memorias del Silencio: Footprints
of the Borderland has been possible due to the effort
and commitment of its authors. Besides providing a space
to share the reality of a sector in the population that
deserves respect and attention, this books is a celebration
for the achievement of those who wrote it.
In these pieces we find clearly detailed spaces, images
of dreams and memories that, line by line, are drawn
in front of us. Each space, each memory is described
with organized precision. This book leaves us with the
feeling of lived events. These pages show in each line,
the author’s encounter with literature. Added
to the content of their stories, this makes this book
a piece of obvious importance in our society.
Several of the stories that this second volume presents
could be considered continuations of the previous book.
It is not by chance. When we read these texts, we find
pieces that reflect a continuity of reality. It is not
one person who has arrived from México to the
United States having to make great sacrifices, and after
immense difficulties. It is not one person who had to
work under unjust circumstances. Neither has it only
been one woman who had to leave her children in search
of opportunities to support them. There has not only
been one couple who had to see their children leave
their homeland because it cannot offer them what they
need. The literature in these pieces is repeated because
it follows reality.
